Overview of Grinding Mill Liner

When a mill is designed, the type of liner that goes into it plays an important part. It helps in reducing the compression and decreases the wear of the mill. A wrong liner design increases power consumption and reduces the efficiency of the grind hence impacting the overall productivity throughout the mill.


The design of the liner has a significant effect on the performance of a mill. What Is Grinding Machine?

Grinder mill liner is equipment that has a grinder machine that helps in producing fine size particles by reducing the abrasion and compressive forces at the grain size level. Here are some of the grinding machines in which the grinding mill liner is installed.


Ball Mill

A typical fine grinder machine is a ball mill. It has a slightly inclined design and it has a horizontal rotating cylinder that contains stone, metal, and balls. It crushes the material to the necessary fine level with friction and impact created with the tumbling balls. The grinding mill liner is attached to the ball mill to protect the equipment from wear during friction.


SAG Mill

SAG stands for semi-autogenous grinding. This machinery helps in primary grinding. The SAG mill uses the same process as the ball mill and they grind the materials at a ball charge of 8-21%. SAG mills are determined by their large diameters and small length than ball mills.


Tower Mills

Tower mills which are also known as vertical mills are efficient for grinding ores in fine particles to go through the screening process. They give really fine particles, that's why these are used after SAG mills. The vertical mill does not grind through friction with mill balls, they have large screw mounted vertically that lifts up and down to grind ores and solid materials.

The liners come in various sizes and are available in a range of materials. The grinding mill liners can be made of Manganese Steel known as steel mill liners, Cast Iron liners, Rubber Liners, Ceramic liners, Composite Liners, and Pro-Line Polyurethane liner.

High Profile Mill Liner

The high-profile mill liner is used to give the media the higher lift. The high profile mill liner is used for primary grinding mills such as SAG mill or Ball mill which results in the impact of the higher cascade.


Lower Mill Liner

The lower mill liner reduces the impact on the leading edge, this means the cascade of the media will become flat as the leading edge of the medium lifter wears away.
